New Blackrock Mountain Cards: Axe Flinger and Lava Shock

by - 9 years ago

It’s only been a few days since Blackrock Mountain has been revealed and we have 2 new cards. Both Warrior and Shaman have their class challenge cards revealed.

Warriors get the Axe Flinger which will synergize well with warrior cards like whirlwind, Cruel Taskmaster, and Inner Rage.

Shamans get Lava Shock. It’s a spell that not only does damage, but will also unlock your overloaded crystals. This is a great filler spell if you play with a lot of overloaded spells and on turn 5 you really want to play that Feral Spirit but want to have mana on turn 6 to play your Fire Elemental. Just plop Lava Shock down for 2 mana and you’ll be able to have your cake and eat it, too.

If you want to check out all of the cards revealed so far, we now have 7 of the 31 cards revealed in our Blackrock Mountain Spoiler List.

EDIT: So a lot of speculation has gone into why the Warrior class card is common and the others are rare. It appears that each class will be receiving 1 common and 1 rare card in this expansion. So 18 of the 31 cards will be class specific!

Lava shock doesn’t say it unlocks 2 chrystals, it’s probably all of them.

I would also think it unlocks the chrystals that are locked for the current turn (because you played something with overload in the previous turn), instead of the ones that are queued for next turn?
So if your turn 6 was Earth Elemental + lightning bolt you would have 4 locked chrystals on turn 7. You could use lava shock and unlock the 4 overloaded chrystals giving you 5 mana to play with.

This would make Earth Elemental and Unbound Elemental synergy more viable again. So even if your EE gets big game huntered (currently the nightmare), you would at least be able to kill that dwarf the next turn and get the mana put something on the board.

I would be cool if instead of dealing two damage, it dealt one damage for each mana crystal unlocked. Maybe would have to raise the mana cost for that though.

Lava burst is great, card is great. The one mana cleave will see play

I really hope that Lava Shock ends up usable, the mechanics are super interesting and the way it boosts cards like Unbound and Earth Elemental make it super sweet. It all depends on how often you get into a situation were you want to both unlock crystals and deal two damage to a priority target.
