whispers of the old gods

Introduction This is the second installation of my “The Many Faces of …”. I started a few weeks back with Warrior and will continue today with druid. Before the release of Whispers of the Old Gods and the nerfs to classic and basic Cards, that were introduced one week prior, Druid was considered a very narrow but also very powerful class. Force of Nature and Savage Roar, in their Prior iteration, were just too good to be ignored in a competitive environment. Midrange/Combo Druid was the most dominant archetype by far while other Play styles e.g. Ramp Druid and Aggro Druid saw only occasional play. Only in some states of the meta the were played more frequently as they were used as Counters to other decks. Today, the grand picture has changed quite a bit. Force of Nature no longer grants charge, old cards dropped out and new cards were introduced. These changes lead to

Whispers of the Old Gods Released

by Crow on

The latest expansion for Hearthstone, Whispers of the Old Gods, has been released in the Americas, with a release to come tomorrow for the EU. The Year of the Kraken begins today. Keep a few things in mind: If you want to get packs for less than the normal Battle.net price, check out our recent guide. And keep in mind that Blizzard is handing out a LOT of packs for free this time. Logging in during the expansion’s first week of release will net you three free packs. You’ll also get C’thun and two Beckoners of Evil for nothing. And that’s before you’re offered a quest to win two games in Standard, which will give you five free packs, AND unlocks another quest for win seven games in Standard that will reward you another five free packs. So yes, spend money to buy packs, but not as much as you have to

The new patch is live with the classic nerfs. You can now sort cards by standard and also look at the new cards. However, you won’t be able to craft them or open your new packs until April 26th. This also appears to be live on PC only right now and matchmaking will only match you against those players who have the latest patch as well. So until we see an update on the mobile platforms if you want to play with the new nerfs or not, you have a short window of choice. Hearthstone Patch 5.0.0.12574 Patch Notes This Hearthstone patch prepares the Tavern for the arrival of Whispers of the Old Gods! This patch also paves the way for a new way to play Hearthstone and introduces adjustments to key Basic and Classic cards. Along with bug fixes, we’ve also added new card backs and Tavern Brawls. We’ve been seeing “leaks” and rumors for the past week or so on April 26th being the date for release of Hearthstone’s next expansion, and indeed, it has been announced that April 26th is indeed the date. This will lead into some interesting scenarios with it being the last few days of ranked play this month so as players fight their way to hit legend or get that top 100, the meta might be shifting rather radically for them. You can read the full announcement below

In what will likely be the final reveal of the remaining cards in the Whispers of the Old Gods expansion, Lead Designer Ben Brode and caster Frodan are going to be hosting a stream on Twitch on Thursday, April 21st at 10AM PST. In addition to showing off the rest of the set prior to the expansion’s release, it’s likely that Brode will let us in on some of the impending balance changes that will be taking place with classic cards, something that we’ve known would be taking place with the arrival of Standard play. Old Gods Power Rankings (Standard)

by OtakuMZ on

Introduction I am holding off on my usual infographics until the new formats hit. Until then, allow me to get into the hype of card releases and bring you something that I hope you find useful. When I look at the reviews of the cards due to release in an upcoming expansion, there is always one thing that bothers me. Once the review is written or the video posted there is no turning back until we see the whole picture of the full release. When this finally happens, there will normally be reviews of all cards again, which usually contains a lot of repetition of what was said or written previously. “This ranking should be flexible and evolve with every card released.” My approach will be a little different. This ranking should be flexible and evolve with every card released. I will not do any in deep reviews of the cards and I will not

We have roughly 35% of the Whispers of the Old Gods set revealed so far (check out the full spoiler list of reveals here), and today we at BlizzPro are proud to reveal a common Warrior minion card in the set. Say hello to Ravaging Ghoul. So this looks to be a corrupted Unstable Ghoul, which if that’s the case it’s interesting to see a neutral minion become a warrior minion, but because of it’s whirlwind battlecry effect it does make the most sense to apply it to a warrior only. With it being a 3/3 body for 3 it becomes a pretty decent 3 drop since it only hits the other minions and not itself. However, where it really shines is the fact that it’s a potential replacement for Death’s Bite (but obviously not as good) for Patron Warrior. It can help trigger things like Execute to get rid of pesky
