HGG Cheer is Live, Prizes Announced

by - 6 years ago

Last week, we covered the announcement of the HGG Cheer program–a program by which Blizzard offers emotes and in-game loot to encourage viewers to “cheer” for their favorite remaining HGG teams and support the players on those teams in the process.

The feature goes live today, and we also have some details on the prize structure that were not in the original announcement. It looks like there are 10 tiers of personalize prizes (as well as the global prizes, as previously announced), the highest of which is the special cardback. Many of the prizes include card packs. In case you forgot, the “Get In Here” Bundle includes 10 packs, 2 of each of Classic, Journey to Un’Goro, Knights of the Frozen Throne, Kobolds and Catacombs, and Witchwood.

If you have never “cheered” on Twitch before, here is the quick and dirty: You purchase Bits from Twitch or earn them by watching advertisements (warning: watching ads is a very slow process as the ads are long, interactive to make sure you actually look at them, and you only get 5 Bits per ad–the amount of Bits you can get for free each day is also limited); you then “cheer” by donating a number of those Bits while you are watching the applicable stream; and (eventually) the streamer gets paid out by Twitch for the Bits that were donated to him/her/it.

If you are like me and have never purchased Bits before, you can get the “first time purchaser” discount from Twitch and get 1000 Bits for $10 and then buy the remaining 1000 for $14 (if all you want is cards) or 1500 for $19.95 (if you want the card back as well). If you only want the cards, that comes out to a total of $24 for 22 packs (10 Classic, 4 Witchwood, 2 Un’Goro, 2 KFT, 2 KnC, 2 Boomsday), which is a pretty good deal. It looks like you will also very likely get 2 more Boomsday packs, as that is the first communal reward (the other three community rewards have not yet been announced). Plus, of course, you get the special Twitch emotes and half of those Bit proceeds go to the players you are supporting. It’s a win-win-win and definitely something you should check out if you are the type of player who puts money into the game.

Edit: we have confirmed that the rewards are based on cumulative Bit donations, so you can split up your donations if you want to support multiple teams and still get your in-game loot.

Here is the updated post with more details:

Celebrate the journey with HGG Cheer—a new program that allows you to support your favorite teams and unlock rewards in-game and on Twitch along the way!

From Sept. 17 through Nov. 4, you can support participating HGG teams by Cheering with Bits on Twitch. As you Cheer for a team using their dedicated, custom Cheermote, a portion of the revenue will go back to the players on that team.

When you Cheer for a team, you’ll also be able to unlock special Twitch emotes and in-game rewards for Hearthstone based on how much you Cheer. In addition to personal rewards, community support can unlock global rewards for everyone who has Cheered as overall milestones are reached.

You’ll be able to see your personal and global progress on the official Hearthstone Twitch channel. HGG supporters can see:

  • Your Progress: As you Cheer (for any team), you’ll make progress towards unlocking Twitch emotes and in-game rewards—including card packs and a card back—based on the level of Cheering you’ve done as an individual.
  • Global Progress: Monitor the overall support for HGG and keep track as overall levels of Cheering unlock global rewards for supporters over a minimum level of personal Cheering.

Personal Reward Progression

1 Common Emote Pack 300
2 4 Classic Packs 600
3 Rare Emote Pack 800
4 4 Classic Packs 1000
5 2 Witchwood Packs 1200

  1. Visit the official Hearthstone Twitch channel any time from Sept. 17 through Nov. 4.
  2. Select the Cheermote of the team you wish to support, then add the number of Bits you wish to Cheer (plus an optional custom message).
  3. Check back in the Tavern once goals are reached to automatically receive your rewards! (The card back will be added in a future Hearthstone update.)

How much revenue does a team receive when I Cheer for them?

For each Bit Cheered for an HGG team, that team and Blizzard (as the tournament organizer) receive an equal amount of revenue. The HGG team’s portion is divided evenly among the four team members.

Which teams are included in HGG Cheer?

Brazil, Singapore, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Bulgaria, China, Chile, Chinese Taipei, Spain, Switzerland, New Zealand, Netherlands, Norway, Hong Kong, Portugal, and the United States are included.

How do I Cheer for a team?

To Cheer for your team of choice, click on the Bits icon in the corner of the chat window, select that team’s Cheermote, add the number of Bits you want to use, and optionally add a custom message to cheer them on.

Can I use the regular Cheer command for HGG Cheer?

No, regular Cheers won’t work for HGG Cheer. You can Cheer for any of the 16 remaining HGG teams using their team-themed Cheermotes.

I forgot to link my Blizzard Battle.net account before Cheering! Can I still get the items?

Yes! First, link your Blizzard account to your Twitch account. When you return to the Hearthstone Twitch channel, you’ll see that a “Redeem All” button has appeared. Hit that button to claim your items!

Where can I watch HGG in my native language?
