Kobolds and Catacombs Reveal Livestream Recap

by - 6 years ago

Earlier today, Brian “Kibler” Kibler and Lead Initial Designer Peter Whalen kicked off the Kobolds and Catacombs reveal season with the first live-stream reveal of the week. During the stream, they discussed the new Dungeon Run mode, the design process for the set, and nine card reveals:

Some highlights include:

  • Peter Whalen reveals he has questionable taste in “cuteness” by admitting he thinks Feral Gibberer is the cutest card in the set.
  • We saw the first-ever Rogue secrets! There will be three in the set. Interestingly, secrets started in Rogue, but got moved over to Paladin because Rogue had too much going on whereas Paladin did not have much that defined it as a class. This might seem odd, because Rogue was a class in search of an identity for a while whereas Paladin seems to be able to do everything, but the Combo keyword was part of that math as well. Of important note, Peter says that the immediate plan is not to have secrets in Rogue in every set going forward, but to try it out in this set and see how they feel about it.
  • Duskbreaker is strong. Like, crazy strong. There are a handful of dragon cards in the set, and a few more “dragons matter” cards, as well, but not to the extent of Blackrock Mountain.
  •  Branching Paths is the only “choose twice” card in the set. Peter has confirmed that the card has no interaction with Fandral.
  • The Mithril Spellstone gives another 5/5 when it upgrades. The spell stone cards are similar to quest cards, but a bit more of a middle ground where they are a little easier to upgrade, but the effects aren’t as gamebreaking.
  • Recruit is not in every class (although, as we already know, it is in neutral), and Kathrena is the only Recruit card in Hunter.

Check out the whole VoD and our complete spoiler list. Then let us know what your favorite cards are, in the comments below.
