Live Q&A Summary and Wild Sets Purchasable Again!

by - 7 years ago

The Live Q&A happened on June 30th with Ben Brode and Mike Donais. They did not talk about the upcoming new adventure which will be teased next week, Thursday, July 6, at 7:00 pm PDT on the the official Hearthstone Twitch channel. They rather talked about the nerf to Caverns Below, Ladder, Arena, Quest/card/archetype design, and more. A summary can be found below.

Shortly after, there the announcement that rotated sets will once again be purchasable in the shop. This is the continued effort of Blizzard to push the Wild play mode. You will able to pick up the following sets again through the shop:

  • Adventures
    • Curse of Naxxramas
    • Blackrock Mountain
    • League of Explorers
  • Expansions
    • Goblins vs. Gnomes
    • The Grand Tournament

The full blue post can is displayed at the end of the article.

Short Live Q&A Summary

Key Messages:

  • A new expansion is due in August
    • free mission will be telling its story
    • missions are likely to resemble what where adventures before
    • they already wanted to do missions for Mean Streets
  • The Quest mechanic was a success in their eyes; lower tier quest may be improved with additional support in later expansions
  • Arena balancing will come in Patch 8.4
    • minor nerf to Mage drop rates
    • minor buffs to Warrior drop rates
  • Caverns Below dragged in too much Aggro on the ladder, and that is why it is being nerfed. They want control to be more prominent
  • Other Un’Goro cards:
    • Primordial Glyph is not a problematic card according to their data
    • Pyros performed better lately
    • Humongous Razorleaf outperformed their expectations
  • They talked about the effect of rarities, no real news here
  • Archetypes
    • they were surprised and delighted to see more archetypes with the Un’Goro set than expected
    • Freeze Mage is on their watch list
    • Discard Warlock will be improved further down with new sets, they do it carefully because they also want other Warlock archetypes
    • Jade Druid is still on their watch list as  being possibly oppressive to other control archetypes
  • Ladder redesign is going forward, but it will not hit August
    • the bottom of the ladder is still problematic
    • top tier is very grindy still
    • some issues fixed already though
  • Basic cards still around half the cards of decks
  • Buffs to existing cards are still no option for the design team; they’d rather do new ones
  • Brawls exclusive to Fireside Gatherings are real
  • They discussed dropped expansion ideas

The Wild calls to some. Maybe it’s the limitless potential of building a deck with any card at all. Perhaps it’s the allure of truly disgusting combos that were never meant to be. Some have never experienced Kel’thuzad’s legendary snark first-hand, or felt the searing heat of Blackrock Mountain (♪ a Hearthstone Adventure ♫)!

Whatever calls to you, get a taste of it by catching the Hearthstone Wild Open this weekend! Brush up on those survival skills by watching some of Wild’s finest players square off in the first official Wild tournament!

The quarterfinals begin today, July 1 at 10:00 a.m. PDT. Catch the semifinals and finals tomorrow, July 2, also starting at 10:00 a.m. PDT.

Watch the Wild action unfold on the official Hearthstone Twitch channel.
