2017 Hearthstone Wild Open Announcement

Over the past couple days, Blizzard has given the community a slow drip of news about the upcoming Wild Open.
On Monday, they gave us a link to the official rules. However, there was some confusion and controversy surrounding one particular rule: that players could only qualify for the tournament if their applicable Battle.net Account (yes, the rules brought that term back) matched their physical residence. This upset some pro players, and had a particularly bad impact on people in ten countries (including Australia, India, and the Philippines) who had gotten mixed messages as to on which server they were expected to play [examples of outrage have been omitted because this is a family website].
On Tuesday night, Community Manager Aratil provided an “update” to the rules, making some allowances for the players in the ten countries that had gotten the mixed messages as to where they should play.
This afternoon, Blizzard made an official post (re)announcing the rules, clarifying the schedule, and announcing the casters who will work the event. Highlights of the announcement include: games will be played on June 9-11 and July 1-2, players will be competing for their share of a $25,000.00 prize pool, and Cora will not be on the casting team (it looks like she might be trying to compete in the event, instead).
For all the details, check out the entire announcement below.
The time has come for our first ever official Wild Hearthstone tournament! We’re excited to see what the fearless players braving the Wild format have in store for us in the Hearthstone Wild Open.
Qualification
The top 64 players from the Americas, Europe, and Asia-Pacific will be invited to compete. Players will be invited based on their Wild Ranked Play finish in their region of residence.
Format
The Hearthstone Wild Open will be played in a best-of-five Conquest format with one ban. Regional qualifiers will be double elimination, with the top two players from the Americas, Europe, and Asia-Pacific advancing to the single elimination playoffs, where they will be joined by the top two players from China.
Schedule
The initial online qualifiers will take place June 9 to 11, with the playoff bracket playing out live July 1 and 2. Stay tuned for more information on broadcast times and details!
Talent
The event will be split into two portions — an online bracket to whittle down to the top players from each region, and a live final. Casting the online competition will be Dan ‘Frodan’ Chou, TJ ‘Azumo’ Sanders, Robert Wing, and Nathan ‘ThatsAdmirable’ Zamora. For the live final, Frodan will be joined by Brian Kibler, Simon ‘Sottle’ Welch, and Alex ‘Raven’ Baguley.
Prize Pool
The prize pool for the Hearthstone Wild Open is $25,000 USD.
