The Official Hearthstone website just published a massive blog post highlighting the upcoming Year of the Mammoth Roadmap.
When the next expansion releases, Blackrock Mountain, The Grand Tournament, and League of Explorers will rotate out of Standard. Whispers of the Old Gods, One Night in Karazhan, and Mean Streets of Gadgetzan along with the three 2017 set releases and Classic set will complete The Year of the Mammoth’s card pool for Standard.
Introducing the Hall of Fame
Ben Brode alluded to some Classic and Basic cards potentially being removed from Standard if the set no longer felt fresh and exciting in these posts [1, 2]. The community spent the following days and weeks dissecting which cards (if any) might receive this treatment. The Hall of Fame consists of Classic cards that showed up and many decks and/or reduced the chance of new cards having an impact. These cards include Azure Drake, Sylvanas Windrunner, Ragnaros the Firelord, Power Overwhelming, Ice Lance, and Conceal. The class spells that are being inducted into the Hall of Fame are cited to limit design space of future diverse content.
This year will include 3 ~130 card expansions, foregoing the smaller card sets that traditionally accompanied Adventures. The goal is not to remove Adventures from the game, but instead utilize the storytelling of Adventures with the card pool size of expansions. Each expansion will be accompanied by single-player missions moving forward.
What About Wild?
The Hearthstone team will be focusing on supporting more Wild content going forward. This includes a Wild Heroic Tavern Brawl as well as working with third-party tournament organizers to promote additional tournaments using the Wild format.
Celebrate the Year of the Mammoth Together!
Before the release of the next expansion, Hearthstone will have daily login rewards that offer dust, gold, and expansion packs as well as other “surprises.”
Introducing Maiev Shadowsong
A new Rogue Hero will accompany the next expansion. Maiev Shadowsong can be obtained by winning 10 games in Standard Ranked or Casual mode.
That’s it! Start saving up your gold and dust now! There’s nearly 400 new cards coming to Hearthstone in The Year of the Mammoth!
