Spiderman Hunter is a control/value hunter deck which wins the game by having a lot of cards which create other cards or just have really high value. It is great against control decks as you have more threats than they can deal with, they only have a certain amount of removal, but you potentially have endless minions with the likes of tomb spider and ball of spiders.
The aim is to survive the early turns with your removal and then play high value minions on curve such as tomb spider and Savannah Highmane. Against decks such as zoo and secret paladin we can have big removal turns using our AoE effects combined with a Hunters Mark or a Deadly Shot. The deck doesn’t need card draw because there are multiple cards in the deck which add more cards to your hand so you don’t run out of options.
There is no burst in the deck but it is quite common to accumulate damage from the beasts you create throughout the game. Cards like Timber Wolf, Tundra Rhino and King Crush can all be used to acquire a surprising amount of burst damage.
Vs Aggro – The deck can struggle against aggro and so your AoE effects (Powershot, Unleash the Hounds and Dreadscale) are extremely useful to keep. We always want to keep Webspinner, Jewelled Scarab and Animal Companion to put early bodies on the board.
Vs Control – Against control decks, or decks that play 1 big minions at a time (Midrange Druid for example) instead of flooding the board, hunters mark can be extremely good to keep as it can remove big threats extremely effectively when combined with other cards. You still want your early minions to put on the board though and vs decks like control warrior you can even consider keeping tomb spider because even though it is slow, you know they are not going to pressure you early on.
Zoo – Can be tough, but your AoE effects can crush them if used correctly
Secret Paladin – Similar to zoo and Hunters Mark combined with Unleash is very strong against Mysterious Challenger
Patron – We have no nice way of dealing with patrons, we often have to combine our cards together to deal with them
Control Warrior – Very good matchup, they apply no pressure and you out value them
Priest – Similar to control warrior, also Hunters Mark and Deadly Shot are very strong in this matchup
Freeze Mage – Another good matchup as we have Brann, 2 Healbots and a Loatheb, also we don’t run out of threats
Aggro Shaman – Very tough matchup, we need a very good start to win this one
Face Hunter – Similar to Shaman
Tempo Mage – Another tough matchup as we often cannot deal with their aggression
Midrange Druid – This is surprisingly close, Hunter Mark and Deadly Shot are extremely good against them, and we have a few taunts and heals to protect our self from combo, however we don’t put many early bodies on the board to contest their minions
Renolock – A good matchup, as long as we take it slow we can out value them
Rogue – Also fairly difficult as we struggle to deal with their burst damage
When playing this deck remember that you are playing for the late game, face is not the place. It isn’t the most competitive deck at the moment as there is a lot of aggro on ladder but it is extremely fun! Good luck and enjoy!
