Identity Enigma #11: AOE’n USA

by - 9 years ago

While joining your friends at the local tavern might make for an evening of entertainment; meeting new people can be just as rewarding, although maybe a bit dangerous. New faces pop up in the tavern all the time, countless stories are shared among the patrons, and often enough issues will be resolved right then and there. But have you been paying attention to your surroundings? Let’s put your skills of observation and memory to the test and see if you can identify these strangers!

Welcome to Identity Enigma, the new puzzle where it’s your job to identify three Hearthstone Cards based on little clues. The clues can make reference to the card’s ability, its stats, its voice acting, or their flavor text. Maybe I’ll just reference their Warcraft lore, or perhaps just something that has made them notable in Hearthstone. What about having just a silly play on its name? Everything is possible on Identity Enigma!

We’ve been at it almost for three months, deciphering the Enigma three minions at the time. So its only fitting that for this finally the overarching theme is punctuated by three letter abbreviations in AOE and USA. the Key to win this last challenge is also size three.

Can you break the code?

Good luck, traveler.

Denver, CO.

“Our inn takes security very seriously.”

Huntington Park, CA.

IE11Riddle2

“The best friend my patrons could ask for.”

Augusta, ME.

IE11Riddle3

“Such a pessimist, this guy.”

Can you identify which 3 Hearthstone Cards are we talking about? Use the comments below to submit your answer and explain why you think your cards fit the bill? Identity Enigma will return for season 2 on August 9th, and it will feature a seasonal leaderboard and a brand new scoring system. Get Hyped?

I really can’t figure out any relation between states/ cities and the cards. But, I’ll take a shot based on “AoE” and the descriptions…

Denver, CO: Flame Leviathan – I’d consider that some pretty serious security.

Huntington Park, CA: Darkscale Healer – you need to be her friend to get healed…

Augusta, ME: Doomsayer – probably the most pessimistic card in the game.

  2. Cheng says:

To be honest i’m at a loss here… And so seems to be the case with most of us. So let’s start the real deal and crack it all together

    a. I have no idea what the city means. I’ve even tried to google what they are famous for but nothing came up. I tried to correlate the CO/CA/ME with the initials of the cards and still no luck

b.The basic lead is the AoE. This could either mean AoE effect (like doomsayer) or perhaps an ongoing effect (like Venture Co mercenary)

    c. The discriptions this week are short so let’s try to make the best of them

    —————————————————

1.I’ve given it quite much thought and can’t come up with anything. So i’ll stick with Venture Co mercenary.

    2. Supposing that patrons refer to grim patrons unstable ghoul (AoE) and Warsong Commander (ongoing effect) are the obvious choices

3.When I read pessimist and AoE my mind is stuck to ”The end is coming” quote of Doomsayer.

    ”Did i miss it?”

  3. Jacko15 says:

Just a suggestion, but at the bottom it says something about guesses fitting the bill, possibly cards are related to dollar bills
    1. venture co
    2. Whirlwind
    3. Doomsayer

    • Dannie Ray says:

The message behind that line never changes, so it has no clue. Like most of the people trying to get this *Shots Fired* Kappa

  4. Dobablo says:

I am completely stumped. Very tough this one. The places really throws me out.

I think the overall theme relates to them being involved in having a destroy ability.

    1. Coren Direbrew (D, CO) – First thought was a Dark Iron Bouncer, who would make for good security, but trying to use the name clue as a sort of last name first name thing suggested Coren Direbrew, who is a Dark Iron Bouncer with a Brawl card to complete the board clear.

    2. Deathwing ? (HP, CA) I dunno, because you’d rather he was your friend than your enemy?

    3. Doomsayer (A, ME) – Definition of Pessimistic and clears the board next turn.

    • Dannie Ray says:

The places are the main clue that allows you to solve each of the puzzles, until you guys figure out what a city means in this context, I doubt you’ll be able to pin down the answer. At least not with certainty.

      • Dannie Ray says:

And btw, what the cities mean IS the overarching theme.

        • Dobablo says:

Right, three letter acronyms with 3 mana cost. The city is to which class the card belongs with the state adding the particular powers. That is my grasping at straws completed and if any of those are right I will be very surprised.

Denver CO – Druid, Choose One. Grove Tender (as in bar tender)
Huntington Park, CA – Hunter Power, Charge Attack. Unlease the Hounds. Dog being a man’s best friend.
Augusta, ME – Anyone Minion, Enrage. Raging Worgen. He is pessimistic because his text says he is going to be nerfed.

          • Jacko15 says:

DANNIE!!! LET US KNOW IF THIS IS RIGHT!!!
If this is right then i think you my friend are a genius

          • Dannie Ray says:

Nope, 3 mana minions is not it. Nice try though. It clearly says that the key to the puzzle is size 3, not that the minions are 😛

  5. Cheng says:

I just noticed the Size 3 hint…. After 1 hour this is my answer.

    1.Alarm-o-bot
    2.Warsong Commander
    3.Doomsayer
PS screw you dannie really… 😛

    • Dannie Ray says:

I’d really love to see the explanations on those answers.

      • Cheng says:

No, not yet, i want them to go through all the trouble i did…

      • Cheng says:

The answer lies in the 3 digit ”area codes” which are
        1.303 and 720
        2.323
        3.207
respectively. These numbers represend the mana cost – attack and health of the cards. There is no minion for 720 (zero health) and so 303 is the correct for the 1st one. Except for the second one which you narrow down from the description, there are only two choices for the 1st and only one for the 3rd. Busted!!!
        —————————-
ps how the hell did you think of that? how much time on average do you spend for these quizes?
ps2 Did you actually expect for this one to be solved?

        • Dannie Ray says:

About 15 minutes. Not sure where I got the idea from. Probably from that 303 band. And yes, I did expect this one to be solved, I hold my viewers to a high standard of intelligence.

And then AOE is because those are the only vowels used in the card names rather than the cards having some AOE style effect right?
