Identity Enigma #6: It’s All the Same to Me

by - 9 years ago

While joining your friends at the local tavern might make for an evening of entertainment; meeting new people can be just as rewarding, although maybe a bit dangerous. New faces pop up in the tavern all the time, countless stories are shared among the patrons, and often enough issues will be resolved right then and there. But have you been paying attention to your surroundings? Let’s put your skills of observation and memory to the test and see if you can identify these strangers!

Welcome to Identity Enigma, the new puzzle where it’s your job to identify three Hearthstone Cards based on little clues. The clues can make reference to the card’s ability, its stats, its voice acting, or their flavor text. Maybe I’ll just reference their Warcraft lore, or perhaps just something that has made them notable in Hearthstone. What about having just a silly play on its name? Everything is possible on Identity Enigma!

Good, good, good luck, travelers.

Like Father, Like Son

IE6Riddle1
“He might not be throwing bombs all over the place, but it’s no secret that this guy is just as insane.”

You are Mine Now

IE6Riddle2
“Death blooms when he’s around, but at least he bogs down casters.”

Ready or Not, Here He Comes

IE6Riddle3
“His mere presence spells damage, but I was really disappointed at his lack of blue skin”

Can you identify which 3 Hearthstone Cards are we talking about? Use the comments below to submit your answer and explain why you think your cards fit the bill.

Greetings travelers! The first one is kinda obvious. “He might not be be throwing bombs all over the place, but that guys is just as insane” indicates the ”mad” prefix. The “it’s no secret” part indicates that he somehow correlates to secrets. The only possible choise is mad scientist. The title comes to verify this opinion. According to the flavor text, ” his mother wanted himto be a mage or a warlock, but nooooooo, he wanted to be a scientist just like his father” thus like father like son…
    Nailed it! πŸ˜›

The quote “You are mine now” also comes from Loatheb’s heroic encounter, so definitely him. Good job on Mad Scientist, I couldn’t think of that one for some reason.

The last one is tricky. The only things I can relate to the quote “Ready or not, Here I Come” is Millhouse Manastorm (attack: “Here it comes!”) or Micro Machine (attack: “Here I come!”) Millhouse relates to spells (but not spell damage), and Micro Machine certainly does a lot of damage but nothing to do with spells. Neither have any relation to blue skin though.
I did wonder about Velen’s Chosen, it gives spell damage, and Draenei have blue skin so if you cast “Velen’s Chosen” on a non-Draenei you could be dissapointed by a lack of blue skin. However, the “Ready or Not, Here He Comes” tagline doesn’t relate to this card in any way that I can think of.
It could also refer to Velen himself, as he doubles all spells damage and healing, and his skin is purple rather than the typical Draenei blue. But again, the “here he comes” quote I can’t attribute.
I looked at the rest of the spell-damage cards and none of them have anything to do with blue skin either as I can tell.

      • Cheng says:

Well the title could also refer to the ”are you ready for this” summon quote for archmage, but he does have plenty of blue skin… Any ideas about what ”it’s all the same to me” means?

  2. Cheng says:

So summing up the current conversation i would go for this
    1. Mad Scientist
    2.Loatheb
    3. Ogre Magi
    Explanation is below

P.S. 1 thx to DLTyrus for the help with loatheb
P.S.2 Kudos to the one who explains to me what “it’s all the same to me” means

    • Cestmoilah says:

“It’s all the same to me” because each card’s attack power is the same as their health: Mad Scientist is 2/2, Loatheb is 5/5, and Ogre Magi is 4/4.

      • Cheng says:

        Kudos to you sir… πŸ˜€

      • Dannie Ray says:

        What about their mana cost?

        • Daren says:

          teamwork won’t leave a hint unsolved… xD

          • Cheng says:

Where have you been daren? We missed you πŸ˜›

          • Daren says:

Yeah he did, I tried a bit without looking at your team effort… and man the ogre hint was obscure… “The experiment was a success, with the only noticeable side effect the fact that it turned the ogres’ skin blue.” Good job finding that! I had the Loremaster achievement the moment in came out in azeroth and still I didn’t know/remembered that one. I take a look at news a couple of times per week… And in 2 days you had solved everything.

          • Dannie Ray says:

To be honest, if you figured out that all the cards had their Mana Cost, equal to their Attack, and equal to their Health. When you factor in the spell damage you are down to Kobold Geomancer, Ogre Magi, and Soot Spewer. Then its just reading up on those 3 until you know which one fits the rest of the clues.

          • Daren says:

Yeah… but it’s a big IF there… it was the last hint that was solved, not the first. :p Without that, the spell-damage clue was easy… but it was through the ready or not that his identity was uncovered. Still, good job building these enigmas.

          • Cheng says:

Well tbh i didn’t have a clue what the title means untill cest and you replied. I’ve never played WoW but i am a huge fun of the 3 warcraft series. Still ogre magi never crossed my mind, it was pure luck that i found the clue while looking at the spell dmg minions. In the beggining i hardly believed that it was possible for ”that” to be the answer, but all the other clues pointed to ogre. Sometime we go the opposite way πŸ™‚ . Anyway that was a nice riddle and ”out of the box”.
Btw it’s always Wensday so make sure not to miss next time daren πŸ™‚
p.S. what happened to the lethal series dannie?

          • Dannie Ray says:

They are a bit more time consuming to produce and my schedule is a bit tight for a few months.

    • Daren says:

Oh my… did I get late to this one… good job to all!
