Bonus Deck: Void Gang Boss Zoo

by - 9 years ago

On Friday we give you the Deck of the Week, but sometimes we just cannot wait that long to show you something cool. This is Bonus Deck, where we try to surprise you with cool decks that might just change the way you perceive this game.

When Imp Gang Boss was announced, it was theorized that it would be an excellent sticky minion for zoo, the perfect replacement to Harvest Golem. Now that it’s out I’ve been having some fun reviving an older Zoo deck that had fallen out of favor. One of the worst feelings when playing Zoo is drawing into both your Doomguards at the same time, you really don’t want to discard one and Void Caller is a great way to avoid that unfortunate circumstance.  Void Terror in the other hand has great synergy with Power Overwhelming, and can also be used to trigger Void Caller to get your Doomguard out for only 3 mana (and no discards).  There are likely going to be a lot of 1/1 tokens on your board at various stages of the game, eating them up to play around AoE might also be a good call. Finally, Nerubian Eggs and also be popped with Void Terror. Having a 3/5 and 4/4 on the board on turn 3 is a pretty commanding position.

There’s a lot of tinkering to be done with the concept and I’m sure a more polished up version of Imp Gang Boss Zoo will appear on Deck of the Week after the meta settles, meanwhile you can try your own spin on this concept or simply take a look at what I’ve been doing.

Since I’m a very cheap individual here’s the super budget version that I’ve been running to decent success.

Here are some cards that would probably work just as well or maybe even better with this list. Loatheb, Voidwalker, and a second Knife Juggler are things you should definitely keep in mind and try to fit into your deck.

In fact, Knife Juggler is legit crazy with Imp-losion and the Gang Boss, I only have one of them and didn’t feel like crafting one, but he doesn’t appear on my next few packs my hand might be forced.

Anyway, mulligan heavily for Flame Imp and Leper Gnome, you want to take command of the board early and often and should have the initiative at all times. If you can trade up your 1/1 tokens using the buffs from Dire Wolf Alpha and Abusive Sergeant. Power overwhelming is another great option to get a big tempo swing out of a token.

Turn 2 Nerubian Egg into turn 3 Void Terror is play that can be devastating for your opponent if it happens, but I would advise against trying to fish for it. Turn 1 Flame Imp is very important to make sure you start with a lead and keep it throughout the game.

Also be mindful of Swipe, as it is one of the few cards that can completely kill off your Imp Gang Boss with only one card. Swipe is also something that wrecks your Imp-losion, sometimes it might be wise to wait out the first Swipe before Imp-losioning.

Have you tried out Imp Gang Boss in Zoo? Maybe you are running a more mid range version with Shredders, Dr.Boom, and maybe even Rag? Maybe you are running Mal’ganis, and Sylvanas?
