Deck of the Week: Yong Woo’s Trigger Crazy Warrior

by - 9 years ago

Yong Woo is a senior producer for the Hearthstone team at Blizzard and also a pretty damn good player of the game. Each season he usually ranks pretty high with some unconventional decks that he has created and so far this one is my favorite. Last week’s Deck of the Week I was talking about trying to make Grim Patron work in a deck, and Yong Woo has a pretty good thing going here with his Trigger Crazy Warrior Deck.

Personally, I’m still not a fan of Battle Rage and even considered taking it out for another Commanding Shout. Also, with Axe Flinger now out with wing 2 releasing I really want to incorporate it with the deck. Originally I tried doing so by swapping out Frothing Berserker but that ended up being a terrible idea. I’d say removing the Arcanite Reaper and replacing it with a Axe Flinger is probably the best bet – unfortunately I don’t think there’s room for a 2nd.

Deck List

Yong Woo’s Trigger Crazy Warrior
Class: Warrior

Warrior (22)

Neutral (8)

Mulligan

Trying to get Fiery War Axe or Armorsmith in an opening hand is a good thing. Holding onto Shield Block is also good as well. Other than that, I try to hold onto pieces of my combo if I do have an early play (the combo being Warsong Commander + Grim Patron).

Strategy

This deck has insane burst, but keep in mind it’s absolutely combo heavy. Turn 8 is when your combo really sets off and if you play your cards right you can pretty much pull off a one turn kill either turn 8 or 9, so keeping board control and your health up until then is important.

Try to kill off their bigger minions that have more than 3 attack if you can and keep the 2 attack and lower minions on the board on their side if possible, especially when it’s approaching combo time. I also tend to save my Inner Rage’s, Whirlwinds, and the last swing on Death’s Bite to increase the number of Grim Patrons I can get on the board.

NOTE: If your Warsong Commander is at one health and you have Grim Patrons on the board and whirlwind, the new ones generated WILL trigger charge before Warsong Commander dies. You can see me getting the killing blow in the video below with such a tactic.

Yeah, I played that game terribly sloppy but it was only the 2nd or 3rd time I played the deck and was trying to get a feel for it. I’m also just not very good with combo decks in general, they’re not my playstyle.

Man, where do you guys find this stuff? I mean, I know you guys get decks from the pros, but do they reveal it somewhere? Also as usual great coverage guys, this is my favorite Hearthstone site <3
