Hearthstone Streamer Highlights: ThatsAdmirable

by - 10 years ago

We’ve touted him on previous podcasts and articles as one of the best things to happen to Hearthstone commentating. I’m of course talking about Admirable, one of the mainstays in casting at many of our highest level tournaments. Not only is he a great caster, but the man backs it up with formidable skill, as he is a top competitor in his own right and also a sought after coach. Lest we fill his head with anymore well-deserved praise, read on for Blizzard’s official highlight of Admirable as a streamer. This is one guy you want to click that follow button for:

If you’re interested in sharpening your Hearthstone skills, plenty of people out there are making entertaining and informative videos. Among these luminaries you’ll find pro players and skilled amateurs who all share a common goal—to entertain viewers by sharing their knowledge of the game mixed up with memorable moments and having a few laughs along the way.

Today We’re Featuring ThatsAdmirable!
HWC-RtB_ThatsAdmirable_HS_Portrait_CK_125x150.pngSome of you will know ThatsAdmirable from his many appearances commentating Hearthstone events, including DreamHack and the PvPLive Tavern Takeover. What you may not know is that he’s a former Rank 1 World of Warcraft Arena gladiator, and that he has a long history with card games as a former full-time Poker player and Magic: the Gathering Pro Tour competitor. He’s also an accomplished Hearthstone player in his own right, with appearances in a number of tournaments and several top 25 Legend finishes on the North America ladder.

Now let’s learn a little bit more about what makes ThatsAdmirable so worthy of admiration.

Q: Can you tell us a little about your stream?
ThatsAdmirable: Most of the streaming I do consists of playing serious decks in a relaxed atmosphere. I love to interact with my chat, and I’ll talk about the more difficult decisions I make over the course of the game (namely mulligans) and usually touch on questions people have about specific things in the game. I’ll play Arenas from time to time, but I focus on constructed play.

I also love to try new things on stream. They’re not always successful strategies, but I often have very different views about deck building than a lot of professional players do, and at times I think that plays into my strengths. My style tends to be very aggressive and I love to punish my opponents for not keeping up. At the same time, I throw in some curve balls and take the game to a slower pace and try to grind my opponent out. Adapting to the circumstance is really what competitive Hearthstone is all about.

Q: What’s your favorite Battlecry?
ThatsAdmirable: Big Game Hunter – “I got the beast in my siiiiights!” If I were a card, it would be, “Draw a HUUUGE card!”

Q: How did you get into Hearthstone?
ThatsAdmirable: I got into Hearthstone after I saw some of the gameplay on Twitch. Having played card games for about 18 years, it looked intuitive. I gave it a try, and I’ve loved it ever since!

Q: Do you have any advice for new Hearthstone players?
ThatsAdmirable: Don’t be too hard on yourself! But at the same time, try your best to learn from mistakes. The Arena is a great place to familiarize yourself with the game and the fundamentals that make up winning play. If you’re more serious about escalating your skill level, articles on sites like ihearthu.com can really help out. (I’ve written a few pieces there myself!) Practice makes perfect.

When to Watch

The best way to know when he’ll be streaming is to follow him on Twitter. In his own words, “I tend to have Night Ironbeak Owl sessions from time to time.”
