Weekly Spotlight: Cult Master

by - 10 years ago

With hundreds of minions, spells and weapons to choose from, where do you start? You can start right here: every Thursday, we will feature one card in our Weekly Spotlight and share with you how to use it in your constructed deck.

Cult-Master

Cult Master (4M/4D/2H) Whenever one of your other minions dies, draw a card. “She may be an evil cult master, but she still calls her parents once a week.)

The Cult Master is an oldie but a goodie, and long overdue to be featured in our weekly spotlight. This minion has a unique mechanic in the sense that she will only draw cards when other friendly minions die. If she dies first, well, THAT’S ALL FOLKS!

This card is a terrible play when you have no other minions on the board, but great when you have at least some ability to make trades. As long as you get at least one card draw out of her, you’re ahead of the game. Two cards drawn is great. Any more than that, and you can uncork the champagne.

Worst case scenario, even if you cannot make an advantageous trade, just having the Cult Master on the board will force your opponent to at least spend one attack on her. This is where the 4 Health is rather good – it places her in the awkward sweet spot when facing off against Priest, and 4 damage dealt likely ensures that the minion played against her is gone as well.

Cult Master is also an excellent candidate for Stealth, as well as a solid companion play for cards like Force of Nature.

This minion can be extremely valuable in decks where card draw comes at a premium. In addition, she is exceptionally strong as an Arena pick. Card draw is such a significant resource in this game, and any way to gain card advantage is huge. Cult Master is your friend.

Think you meant to put 4 attack. 🙂
