Budget Deck of the Week #6: Aggro Hunter

by - 10 years ago

Some claim Hearthstone is Pay to Win. We believe that’s simply not true. With a little bit of practice and understanding of game mechanics you can easily find success with cheaply made decks. Each Monday we’ll give you a budget deck that you can easily craft with little to no time/effort/gold. Some of these will help you get up in the ranks early on, some may even get you to legendary. Make sure you check all our past budget decks if this one is not to your liking.

Hunters have a bad rep. They’ve been known in Warcraft for quite some time for not being played by the most intelligent people. Several people think hunters just kind of play themselves and click buttons and they do DPS. Face rollers if you will.

Well, the stereotype seems to hold true in Hearthstone as well, and especially with this week’s budget deck.

This week’s budget deck is all about aggro and all about going for your opponent’s face. The entire object of this deck is to try and win by turn 7 or 8. If you can’t win by then you’re going to find yourself having a bad time. Let’s take a look at the deck list:

Total Crafting Cost: 960 Dust

Budget Aggro Hunter
Class: Hunter

Cards sorted by Low Cost

Hunter (26)

Neutral (4)

The Strategy

This deck is all about going for the face. If you go first you can try to get a tracking in your hand and play that. If you go second you want to use your coin on an Eaglehorn Bow if possible, but if one isn’t available Animal Companion is your best bet on turn 2. Try to always use your traps with Eaglehorn Bow when you can and use your traps intelligently. Explosive Trap works great against Zoo while Misdirection works wonders against Druids.

Save your Hunter’s Mark for big creatures or taunts and you can use it in conjunction with Stonetusk Boar for the best result. Never turn 1 Stonetusk Boar – only use it when you have value – such as with Hunter’s Mark, Starving Buzzard, or use him as a beast for the extra 2 damage with Kill Command.

Save your Flares if you are playing Hunter, Miracle Rogue, or Mage. Miracle Rogue you can use it to get his Gadgetzan Auctioneer out of stealth if you need to. For Mages save flares for the end because most of the time when they do a secret it’s Ice Block, so you can cast Flare right when you’re about to do your killing blow to catch them off guard. If you’re not playing any of these classes you can use Flare as a 1 mana draw card.

The most powerful combo is waiting for your opponent to have 2-3 creatures or more on the board and playing Starving Buzzard + Unleash the Hounds + Timber Wolf for doing a bunch of damage plus being able to gain card advantage.

Reckless Rocketeer is your finishing blow, when you have it and Eaglehorn Bow equipped you can dish out 10 damage very quickly. Leeroy Jenkins is the better card to use here if you have him though, but since this is a budget deck Reckless Rocketeer (or Arcane Golem) is a good enough solution.

Just remember the #1 rule of this deck: GO FOR THE FACE. Try to control the board where you can with your Hunter’s Marks and Deadly Shots, but once you start playing defensively and attacking their minions with your weapon or swapping your minions for theirs is the moment you will start finding yourself losing your game.

Try out this deck and let us know in the comments how it worked out for you!

I found that without the aforementioned combos on my draws, my standalone beast are too fragile to go up against other 2/3 mana beast. I usually end up waiting for turn 5-6 and taking a ton of damage before i get good combo off for my weapon/starving buzzard. Also traps make me miss out on some cards and that makes usually makes me a sad puppy. It would be fun if I had some heal mechanism tho, it would certainly make me last longer to in hopes to draw some of my much needed cards.

try running 2 earthring farseers if u need healing. I wouldnt add anymore heal though as itll only make the decks strengths weaker.

Its so easy getting up in rank with this deck cuz most games end at turn 7-8 thanks for the awesome deck ideas btw ^_^

Tried crafting it and playing it to add a third deck to my AggroMage and MiracleRogue sets. Every game was a loss (dropped me a whole rank with 5 losses out of 5 games, I tried again and again thinking maybe I just got bad draws or poor match-up), gets out-rushed by other aggro decks, runs out of steam very quickly without Buzzard+Hounds (which was hit by the nerf hammer), and gets pummeled by control decks.

    Very disappointing.
