Tournament Watch: Dreamhack Summer 2014 Seeds Released

As reported last week, the organizers behind Dreamhack Summer 2014 planned to delegate a select few (12) competitors to be seeded directly into a 16 player group stage, with the remaining 4 players having to claw their way out of the massive open bracket. We now have details on who those seeded players will be as well as official word that the open bracket is capped at 256 entrants. Before we shed light on who these lucky 12 players are, let’s stop to think about the open bracket. 256 entrants – that’s by far the largest tournament bracket EVER for a Hearthstone event. It will be very intriguing to see how this proceeds. I assume we, the viewers, will not be privy to many (if any) of these games, as the 16 person group stage will end up being the main draw. If that bracket concludes without any hiccups or issues, I will truly be impressed and that in itself will be a major victory for the people behind Dreamhack.

In terms of the difficulty of the tournament for those seeded versus unseeded? I think Reynad put it best with this tweet:

The difference between being seeded and not seeded in DH is whether you need to go 4-0 to win the tournament or 20-0.

It will be an incredible feat to simply make it out of the open bracket, but after that it only gets harder. Those four survivors will then enter into a bracket of absolute death, where every player is a savage expert waiting on that one bit of good RNG or an incorrect choice to tear tournament dreams and aspirations to shreds.
