Tournament Watch: Tavern Takeover Series 2014

by - 10 years ago

Now that Dreamhack Bucharest has come and gone, we can begin to look forward to what May will have in store for the Hearthstone tournament scene. One of the first entries out of the gate is PVP Live’s Tavern Takeover Series 2014, set to debut on Saturday, May 10, 2014.

This tournament will take place as an eight person online invitational, fully streamed at PVP Live’s Twitch Page. The stakes – a $3,000 prize pool. Who are the contestants?

  • Ekop
  • Kungen
  • Puffin
  • Realz
  • Reynad
  • Savjz
  • ThatsAdmirable
  • Trump

Many of these competitors are household names at this point, appearing in various tournaments and series over the last few months. If you haven’t developed a soft spot in your heart for any of these guys yet, maybe one of them will takeover. (Mmm, terrible jokes.)

All kidding aside, the format of this tournament will employ the brutal single elimination style, although we’re not yet sure how many games will comprise each set.

Fully licensed by Blizzard, I’m looking forward to seeing how this tournament will be produced, as I’m hoping that with each major tournament that goes down, the community gets better and better at refining the process. Or, you know, Observation Mode.

The “series” part of the title of this tournament means that this will be only the first of many to come in 2014, so you’ll want to stay tuned to PVP Live for future offerings beyond May 10th. Visit this page for their press release introducing the tournament/series.

Founded in 2012, PVP Live is dedicated to creating high-quality, player-centric media properties for the video gaming community. From the casual enthusiast to the hardcore eSports athlete, PVP Live exists to create vibrant, polished media experiences online for all players.
