A Quick Overview of Dreamhack Bucharest 2014 (Plus Deck Lists!)

by - 10 years ago

To say that we learned a lot from Dreamhack Bucharest as a community would be an egregious understatement. While I would like to recap the tournament in great detail, doing so as I viewed it via the stream would unfortunately complicate that process greatly.

While the 128 man/woman bracket was beautiful in allowing essentially anyone with an interest in the tournament the ability to play, it made the actual task of playing that many games in the span of a little over 24 hours a daunting task. As a result, the caster and production team decided to only focus on streaming the games of the eight “pre-seeded” players. However, even some of those games did not make it onto the stream due to time constraints, so that made it hard to follow the story line of who was in and who was out. I saw plenty of people with confused tweets to further prove the above was the case.

So, I’m actually going to travel the road of making this rather spoiler-free. Those of you who have been trying to find VODs of the matches likely have found it to be as arduous of a task as I have, but I was finally able to locate this YouTube account that seems to have most, if not all, of the streamed games and the finals – Lethal Damage Gaming.

I will go as far as saying that we also learned at this tournament that while single elimination and best of three series are expeditious, they are also mercilessly unforgiving and, therefore, some of the players that you might have picked as favorites to comprise your top eight and make it into the money were nowhere to be found even as early as the Round of 32. Make sure to watch with a box of Kleenex nearby if you are prone to be moved by tragic loss (in Hearthstone).

POSSIBLE SPOILERS INCOMING!

Lastly, the deck lists. I will unfortunately have to spoil you on the final four players in order to label whose decks are whose, so tread lightly if you don’t yet want to know!
