New Druid Card: Poison Seeds

by - 10 years ago

One of the announcements coming out PAX East from Blizzard was the new Naxxramas Adventure mode. We know that the upcoming set was going to see the addition of 30 new cards. Of those 30, nine would be class specific. Today, the @PlayHearthstone twitter account revealed what the new Druid specific card would be.

This is a powerful common card. It doesn’t exactly clear the board, but it can be an equalizer if used properly. A spell like this bypasses Divine Shield and destroys larger minions that might have Taunt active (like Molten Giant with a Sunfury Protector). It turns larger threats into a much more manageable size. Don’t want to deal with a Ragnaros or a Ysera? Poison Seeds and you facing some not-so-legendaries instead.

Right away, I would pair Poison Seeds with Savage Roar next turn as a potential finisher (assuming your Treants survive). Of course, this assumes that you actually have a board to begin with. It’ll allow you to get around any Taunt minions that your opponent has on their side of the board.

Want to give yourself another advantage? Poison Seeds and follow up with Power of the Wild which will make your Treants trade favorably.

If you actually want to just clear out the entire board and reset everything, stick an Abomination on the board then cast Poison Seeds. In theory, that should create all the Treants and then the Deathrattle from the Abomination should fire off killing everything.

What’re your thoughts on Poison Seed? Will you be sticking it in your Druid deck? I’m not sure if it will fit in with a deck like DKMR’s Druid Tokens. I just don’t know what card it would replace.

  1. Could be removal for big minions too, since we’re thinking big minions I think it’s safe to assume turn 8.

Seeds + Spell Power Minion + Swipe.

    -OR-

    Seeds + Starfall.

Should be interesting to see how it synergies with other cards in this set, especially since there seems to be a focus on Deathrattle.

  2. modded says:

Poison Seeds should NOT trigger Abomination’s death rattle, as I assume it will be a transformation like Hex which will not trigger a rattle as the minion does not die.

    • If I’m reading the card right though, it would trigger the deathrattle after destroying the minion. I expect all deathrattle’s to be a part of the strategy of this card and that could make for interesting board clear combo with abomb.

      • Chris Pingel says:

I agree that it should trigger the deathrattle, however it seems like the treants would be summoned after the minion is destroyed. therefore it wouldn’t clear anything.

Poison Seeds + Soul of the Forest = OP?

I think it would work backwards.

SotF into PS followed by Power of the Wild

If you have 3-4 minions on the board you could easily end up with 7 3/3s.

I’d be perfectly happy to use this to turn a Handlock’s pair of 9/9 giants into a couple of 2/2s. A good way to remove big nasty threats is something I’ve felt Druid is lacking.

Same problem but seriously use naturalise. It’s good against giants because the other player usually has a hugs hand and you can make them lose some cards in there deck if played propaly.

Yeah Abom(5) then Seeds(4) would/should combo, but um, 9 mana for what is basically the effect of Twisting Nether(8). Different class sure, but exactly how useful (and popular) is that option for 8 mana? Some people strain themselves to be clever, and the practicality is missed. >_<

Force of nature => Poison seeds to save treants
