Tournament Watch: Dreamhack Bucharest 2014

by - 10 years ago

A major opportunity has just arisen for any competitive Hearthstone players that are planning to attend and spectate Dreamhack Bucharest, a two day e-Sports tournament taking place on April 26th and April 27th. For those of you that are unfamiliar with this event and Dreamhack in general, there are multiple Dreamhack tournaments held throughout the year that all lead up to the Dreamhack Open. Those who have done well for themselves over the course of the circuit end up making the Open, which is where the real cash and bragging rights can be won. Each of these individual tournaments is nothing to sneeze at though, in terms of possible winnings, as this year’s grand prize for Bucharest sits at $10,000.00 USD (not to mention pleasurable sums for the rest of the top finishers all the way down to 8th place).

Oh, did I mention that all of the above is in the name of Starcraft II competition? Yes, if you’re strictly a Hearthstone fan, there’s probably a great chance that you haven’t followed this tournament or this scene. No worries. The only important thing you need to know is that this highly competitive e-Sports atmosphere will be adding a new game and tournament this year! Anyone who is already attending this event can sign up for a chance at their share of the $10,000.00 USD prize pool. Slots are limited to first come, first serve for 128 people and then from there, games will proceed in single elimination best of threes. Venture below for the full press release and registration details:

With DreamHack Bucharest 2014 just around the corner, we are proud to announce that our very first international Hearthstone tournament will feature a prize pool of 10.000 dollars.

The NESCAFÉ 3in1 Hearthstone competition will be open to the first 128 players that wish to participate – any DreamHack attendee is welcome to join in on the fun!

Once the registrations are over, these brave souls will battle it out in a single-elimination, best of 3 bracket until only the  champion of Dreamhack Bucharest 2014 will be left standing.

The prize pool will be divided as follows:

  • 1st place – $4000
  • 2nd place – $2000
  • 3rd & 4th place – $1000 each
  • 5th to 8th place – $500 each

So get your decks ready and stay tuned for more details regarding the registration procedure and tournament rules.

The official hotel for DreamHack Bucharest is the Intercontinental Hotel, find details for booking rooms at preferential rates here. For information on travelling to the event, information can be found here.

IEM Katowice set the bar for rolling Hearthstone into these bigger tournaments as a bit of a “test market” for whether this is something that can catch fire and expand in the future. Now, the prize pool is bigger and, of most important note, registration is completely open as opposed to invite only. I’m incredibly curious to see how the production is pulled off – hopefully the games will be streamed – and whether this outing will serve as yet another step forward for Hearthstone cementing itself in the e-Sports scene.
