Alternate Hearthstone Hero Options

Recently, Hearthstone Executive Producer Hamilton Chu did an interview with the Chinese website nga.178.com discussing the future of Hearthstone. There were a number of interesting tidbits about what’s to come, a lot of which pertained to aesthetic features such as cardbacks, game boards and even alternate heroes. The example given was Stormwind’s King Varian Wrynn subbing in for now deposed Garrosh Hellscream as the Warrior hero option.
If Team Five does go forward with this idea, there will definitely be options, given the sheer volume of characters in the Warcraft universe. Here are a few that come to mind for each class.
DRUID: Hamuul Runetotem, Broll Bearmantle, Fandral Staghelm
HUNTER: Hemet Nesingwary, Regent Lord Lor’themar Theron, Shandris Feathermoon
MAGE: Kael’thas Sunstrider, Kel’thuzad, Aegwynn
PALADIN: Prince Arthas Menethil, Lady Liadrin, Sunwalker Dezco
PRIEST: High Priestess Tyrande Whisperwind, Archbishop Benedictus, Sen’jin
ROGUE: Matthias Shaw, Garona Halforcen, Lillian Voss
SHAMAN: Drek’thar, Ner’zhul, Farseer Nobundo
WARLOCK: Darkmaster Gandling, Arugal, Prince Malchezaar
WARRIOR: King Magni Bronzebeard, King Genn Greymane, Sir Anduin Lothar, Broxigar, Baine Bloodhoof
These are just a handful of the options available going forward. I’m pretty partial to Lor’themar, given his amazing storyline in Mists of Pandaria. What alternative hero options would you like to see in the future?
It would be really nice to see these, some real good choices, I reckon they’ll use Arthas for DK when they finally make Death Knight decks
It would be great to see alternative hero powers for different characters too!
I’d love to see Kael’thas’ Fireblast icon be a small fiery phoenix. It’d be awesome.

I would put money on Darion Morgraine as the DK.
I didn’t like this list too much. No Khadgar for mage? No Tirion Fordring or countless other lore heavy paladins? No Vol’jin for shaman? What about Kanrethad Ebonlocke, former leader of the Black harvest, a.k.a. the Warlock green fire questline final boss?
Grom and Tirion are already in the game.

I would’ve put Tirion and Edwin VanCleef except, yah, already in the game as cards. I also had Highlord Saurfang, but figured we had enough Orcs in the Warrior position, between Garrosh and my suggestion of Broxigar.
Great point on Khadgar and Vol’jin, however!
I don’t think Blizzard will use characters that are already cards. That is likely why Rob didn’t suggest Tirion or Grom. Other names, maybe he just doesn’t feel strongly about them.
As for Vol’jin…he’s not a shaman. He’s a Shadow Hunter. It doesn’t match any current class in Warcraft. It doesn’t have to. If Vol’jin is added to the game, he should be a card, not a hero.

I’m gonna dispute some of your suggestions. 🙂
Tyrande: No. She’s not a Priest! She uses a bow. She has a spirit owl pet. She uses lunar-based abilities like Moonfire, Starfall, Moonbolt, Stardust, and Tears of Elune. Abilities she does NOT use include: Mind Control, Shadow Words, and Holy Magic.
Oh, I get that a lot of people link her with the Priest class because she is a “Priestess of the Moon” and has healing abilities, but that is where the similarities stop. She is very, very, very different from the traditional Warcraft Priest.
Hemet Nesingwary: I’d vote against him. He’s definitely a hunter, but he’s not beast friendly. He mounts them on walls, not make friends with them. He doesn’t fit the Hearthstone Hunter kit.
Arugal: Not a Warlock. Did some summoning of worgen, not demons. Pretty different. He’s a Mage.
Lor’themar: I’d love to see him, but I don’t think he’s a Hunter. He was a Farstrider, but I think he’s more of a Warrior. Possibly the same with Shandris. She’s always felt like more of a Warrior type to me. Or maybe more guerrilla. But I could see her going either way. Not sure there, I should ping Crow. 🙂
Who would I like to see? Ishanah for Priest! She’s a Draenei Priest, the head of the Aldor in Shattrath. She’s perfect for the Priest role! And she’s a Draenei, even better! 😀
For Hunter: Halduron Brightwing! Current Ranger Lord of Silvermoon. Or Alleria Windrunner, but she’s not gonna show up in Hearthstone before WoW. 🙂
I think we need some Dwarf representation in the hero line-up.
