Korean Station OGN to Host Hearthstone Tournaments

by - 10 years ago

BlizzCon 2013 might’ve marked the end of the World Championship series for this season, but Blizzard’s already hard at work talking about the changes coming with the 2014 season. While 98% of the post dealt with Starcraft, there was a tasty gem the pertained to Hearthstone that’s worth sharing:

OGN has been a dedicated partner for WCS Korea 2013. In addition to hosting a season of WCS Korea and a Season Final, OGN also broadcasted the WCS Global Finals live from BlizzCon on November 8-9. With the goal to provide a more streamlined experience for both the players and the audience, OGN will not be hosting WCS Korea 2014. OGN has rights to run both StarCraft and StarCraft II tournaments alongside WCS and will be able to run WCS global events that offer WCS points. Additionally, OGN will remain our partner outside of the WCS and will produce entertainment shows and tournaments for Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft.

What does this mean for Hearthstone? It means that OGN will apparently be producing programs for the CCG, as well as running tournaments. Given that information, it’s safe to assume that we should be seeing more support coming for competitive play from the Hearthstone team, possibly including a much desired spectator mode. Nothing’s certain, but this is definitely a positive sign, and with a schedule set to release next month, we’ll hopefully have more concrete facts by then.
