BlizzCon 2013 Hearthstone Dev Interview

by - 10 years ago

The BlizzCon 2013 interviews just keep on coming, and in this one BlizzPro was fortunate enough to sit down with Lead Designer Eric Dodds and Lead Artist Ben Thompson to talk a wide variety of Hearthstone topics, including the competitive meta game, plans for future expansions, the surprising success of the game and more.

There was a lot of good information in the interview, but as someone who fancies himself an above average player, the most interesting thing discussed was the current strength of cards such as Dark Iron Dwarf, Shattered Sun Cleric, Argent Commander, et cetera. Dodds made it clear that, while the team would be diligent, it would not be trying to rock the boat too much. What makes that stance so compelling to me is that, it seems like Team 5 is looking to iron out any large issues prior to the open beta, and then let the game exist, similar to how traditional CCGs/TCGs do. They’ll obviously fix whatever breaks, but they don’t want to tinker overmuch.

Have any questions you’d like answered in the future? Jot them down and we’ll, as always, see what we can do.

Nice interview! Interesting to hear the team’s continued focus toward launch, rather than getting caught up in e.sports components.
