Hidden Gems in Hearthstone

by - 11 years ago

With all the strategizing, card crafting and deck building, one aspect of Hearthstone can at times get a little bit lost: the game is fun. It is a ton of fun. And there are little gems hidden everywhere, if you take a moment to look.

The flavor texts: when you browse your collection, you can right-click cards to reveal a larger version as well as the name of the artist, and additional flavor text. Some of it is groan inducing (which is brilliant in its own way), others are truly absurd and funny. They are definitely worth checking out.

Easter eggs in the credits: a lot of dedicated people on Blizzard’s Team 5 helped make Hearthstone happen. I suspect no one ever reads the game credits for entertainment purposes, but in the case of Hearthstone you just might want to give it a run-through. All of the cards are specifically designed with each team member in mind, down to the amount of mana cost, damage and heath. Each card is unique, none are duplicates from cards found in the game.

In some cases, there are a few hints dropped that make me wish we could one day hear the story behind them all. Maybe one day, when things settle down a bit for Ben Brode.

I didn’t know cards had a separate flavor text, that’s very cool and something I missed (being used to MTG cards). I think there’s a couple that have a snippet built into the main card (Power Overwhelming: “Then, it dies. Horribly.”) which is pretty entertaining.

Another (perhaps more obvious) little gem I saw on a stream: it seems when you’re queuing for a match in the arena there’s old Warcraft music playing with what sounds like a vintage filter. I love details like that.

Yes! I love that change to the music while waiting for a match-up. I also like the other options for potential “opponents” as they scroll by. (“Not the mouth-breather, please not the mouth-breather…” 🙂 )

Hahaha yes the matchmaking wheel is brilliant! There’s a few good ones in there. I think I’ve seen “your old roommate”, “damp druid”, and “blizzard developer”.

haha, loved the card in the credits’ special ability: “Volume can’t be reduced below maximum” 😀

Dire Wolf Alpha (http://hearthstone.gamepedia.com/Dire_Wolf_Alpha) has my favorite flavor text. (So far I can only check them on Wikis, but look forward to browsing through cards in the game). Had no idea that the credits had cards like that in them, kinda neat. Thanks.

A lot of the flavor text is pretty terrible but I have to say that Dire Wolf Alpha gave me a giggle fit . . . Hopefully they’ll get it all up to that level before release.

Love the flavor text on the cards!

Hearthhead has them all listed for viewing which is great!

P.S Cenarius: Yes, he’s a demigod. No, he doesn’t need to wear a shirt.

    Here’s one of my favorite-

Master of Disguise: She’s actually a male tauren. People don’t call him “Master of Disguise” for nothing.

    Everything is perfect!
