Trump Becomes First Professional Hearthstone Player

by - 10 years ago

It’s official, Hearthstone has a professional player in the eSports scene. Razer announced the acquisition earlier in the day via their site, and if you don’t feel like checking out the whole article (which you should, because this super exciting) we have the important bits below:

“It is with great pleasure today that we welcome of one of the world’s top Hearthstone players, Jeffrey “Trump” Shih, to Team Razer’s roster of elite worldwide professional gamers.

The partnership signals the first official dedicated Hearthstone player to be taken on as a professional by an organization, and is aimed at both supporting and growing what is already an incredibly promising game and community.”

If you haven’t taken the time to visit Trump’s stream, I definitely recommend it. Not only can he play, he’s a great resource when it comes to learning about the game, given his tendency to explain the moves he makes. Trump is one of the players who will be participating in the upcoming Innkeeper’s Invitational Hearthstone tournament at BlizzCon.

Both this and the recent partnership between ManaGrind and MLG speak to just how positively things are trending for the competitive Hearthstone community. If you’d like to learn more about how you can personally get involved with tournaments and ladder play, be sure to check out ManaGrind’s Twitter account.

I dont have money to spend on this game, because I’m just student from 12 class and I’m not working. Hope someday good guy will give a beta key for me and for others who looking same as me.

Trump deserved it for sure. I’m wondering who’s going to be next to go pro – lots of streamers and good players out there, I’m curious to see how long will it take for Trump to get some decent competition. Maybe after BlizzCon and HearthStone tournament we’ll see more people getting sponsored by Razer or others.

How can you have a professional in a game not even out of closed beta yet… its a bit early, dont ya think?

    • Rongar says:

Yes, it is early – absolutely. On the other hand, Trump’s channel has over 33,000 subscribers, and over 8 million views. From a marketing standpoint, it doesn’t matter that the game isn’t released yet: Trump already has the eyeballs. In more general terms, this can also be a matter of locking up a professional gamer while the opportunity is there. Razer might have gotten a better value coming in this early with their sponsorship offer. Either way, it is great to have a true professional scene starting to develop this early.

This seems a bit premature for a game that isn’t even in open beta. Maybe TotalBiscuit will be next xD

Although the amount of players in the game is VERY small compared to what it will be in a few weeks, Trump has proven himself to be on a different level than all other streamers and players alike. I think Razer giving him a sponsorship is a HUGE step in promoting this game as competitively viable and hopefully will pave the way for other well known gaming companies to step up and grab some “pros” of their own. What I personally would love to see is this game develop a team aspect similar to how team tennis matches are played (individual match results giving team points). The possibilities for this game are endless and I can’t wait to see it unfold!

I’d really like to see Ellohime, Ohmwrecker or Eldorian go pro. Though they may not fare well in competitive scene, I really enjoy their streams and videos and we need people like them get promoted. I personally don’t like most people in competitive scene, speaking of general.

    • Emre İyican says:

To be more clear; I don’t like people in competitive scene who is arrogant and sees everyone below themselves. This includes most pro LoL, Dota, Starcraft players. Pro scene needs more friendly and tolerant players, more good human beings. Not just some jerks that plays a game good.

This doesn’t include Trump. It’s just his communication isn’t enough with his followers.
